BECOME A VOLUNTEER

We’re looking for someone like you.

You didn’t know me when my dad died. But you showed up anyway.

I didn’t know how to say the words. I didn’t even know what I was feeling.

Everyone told me it would be okay. But it didn’t feel okay.

At Brooke’s Place, I met someone like you.

You didn’t try to fix it. You just sat with me. You listened.

And for the first time, I felt less alone.

There are kids like me walking through our doors every week.

We don’t need superstars. We just need people who care.

People who show up.

We need someone like you.

Ways You Can Show Up

Support Group Facilitator

You let me be mad. You let me laugh. You didn’t make me talk if I wasn’t ready. But I knew you were there.

You don’t know me, but someone like you was there when my dad died. I didn’t know what to say or how to feel. Everyone told me it would be okay, but it didn’t feel that way.

At Brooke’s Place, I met someone who didn’t try to fix it. They just sat with me and listened. For the first time, I felt less alone.

Kids like me walk through our doors every week. You don’t have to be a counselor. You just have to care, show up, and be someone we can count on.

Camp Volunteers

You played games with me. You didn’t ask for explanations. You reminded me I wasn’t alone.

Camp isn’t just bonfires, games, and crafts. It’s where kids like me, whose sister, brother, parent, or friend has died, can feel like ourselves again.

You don’t have to be a grief counselor or an expert. Just show up ready to paint, toss water balloons, talk if we want, or sit with us so we know we’re not alone. Just be someone we can count on.

You help us laugh again and feel safe enough to cry. Some camps are overnight, others are day-long adventures. All of them are unforgettable for kids like me and people like you.

Training & Commitment:

  • Three session training workshop 16+hrs (offered 4-6x/year)

  • One-year volunteer commitment, two evenings per month

  • Must be 18+ (Runner Role 16+ with guardian consent)

What I Wish I Could Tell You

“You probably didn’t think you were doing much. But when you showed up, it helped me believe I could keep going.

Grief is big and scary. But it’s a little easier when someone sits next to you.”
